Nilou (she, they) is a former movement lawyer turned organizational development consultant and coach. They are dedicated to catalyzing transformation within purpose-driven nonprofits and philanthropies to amplify their impact. With over 20 years of experience in organizational development and social justice advocacy, Nilou is now evolving their expertise as a coach and consultant. As Executive Director of Bala Rising, Nilou is actively engaged with a diverse array of clients, focusing on collective governance structures and culture, change management, and holistic leadership development.
As the co-founder and former Director of Pangea Legal Services, a highly impactful Bay Area-based nonprofit, Nilou supported thousands of immigrants seeking safety and refuge. Her track record is underscored by her co-founding and co-leadership in several initiatives, collectively leveraging $50+ million, and extending a lifeline to hundreds of thousands of people.
Nilou’s upcoming book, “The Future is Collective,” is a radical reimagining of the future of work, shared leadership, and transformative impact. Her community-centered writing and leadership has been recognized through several accolades, including the Bernstein Parker Activist Writer Award and the prestigious BIPOC Pioneers in Justice Award from the Levi Strauss Foundation.
Nilou has domestic and global experience and speaks English, Spanish, German, and Farsi.
